Therapy in East Sussex

Hello, I'm Felicia Hooton, although most people know me as Fely. I offer therapy from Wilmington, East Sussex, UK.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am committed to maintaining high professional and ethical standards throughout my practice.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a qualified teacher, including teaching English as a second language. Looking back, I can see how those years shaped the way I connect with people. They taught me the importance of listening carefully, communicating clearly and recognising that everyone learns, grows and expresses themselves in their own way.

Choosing to become a therapist felt like a natural step forward for me. There is something about this work that feels deeply meaningful. I have always been genuinely interested in people and in understanding what life has been like for them and what has brought them to where they are today. It is about being alongside someone as they make sense of what they are going through and find their own way forward.

I have always been fascinated by people and the uniqueness of every individual. No two people experience life in exactly the same way, and I consider it a privilege when someone chooses to share their story with me. I am naturally curious, not because I want to find answers quickly, but because I genuinely want to understand what life is like from another person's perspective.

Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time outdoors and appreciate the sense of peace that nature brings. Whether I'm walking, gardening or simply noticing the changing seasons, being outside helps me slow down and reconnect with what is important. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, sharing good food and meaningful conversations.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me. Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is an important part of the process, and I hope these few words have given you a sense of the person behind the name. If you feel we might be a good fit, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Finding the words

There is no expectation for you to have the right words when you come to therapy. As someone who speaks English as a second language and has taught English to adults from many different backgrounds, I know that expressing ourselves is not always straightforward. Sometimes feelings are difficult to put into words, and that's okay. We can take our time and begin wherever feels right for you.

A human relationship

For me, therapy is, above all, a human relationship. It is one person meeting another with honesty, empathy and acceptance. I consider it a privilege when someone chooses to share what they are going through with me. I never take that trust for granted and I believe it is important to create a space where someone can feel safe enough to be open and truly themselves.

The next steps

If you are considering therapy, perhaps the most important question is not whether I have the perfect words or the perfect approach. It is whether you feel that we might be able to build a relationship where you feel safe enough to be yourself. If that is something you are looking for, I would be honoured to walk alongside you.

Therapy fees

Finding the right therapist is an important decision. To help you decide whether I am the right therapist for you, I offer a free 20 -minute telephone consultation. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, for you to ask any questions you may have and to see whether we feel we can work well together.

I offer open-ended therapy, which means there is no fixed number of sessions. We will work together for as long as you feel it is helpful, and you are free to end therapy whenever you feel ready.
